Nasty Crow.
One day the Fairy Joanfee saw a Crow lying in the clearing by the old oak. Going to the Crow she saw that it was in some kind of pain. Being the kind Fairy that she was, she immediately waved her magic wand. To her delight the Crow took a few steps and flew a few feet into the air. Landing at Joanfee’s feet he thanked her for her help.
The Crow asked Joanfee if she could help him with food. Joanfee had an idea, Crow if I help you with food you must agree to fly with me whenever I have to fly long distances. I find that my wings are not able to fly long distances. The Crow said that whenever Joanfee wanted to fly long distances he would be only to pleased to take her on his back.
The Crow flew off and Joanfee was pleased with herself for making this agreement with the Crow. Every day the crow flew into the clearing where Joanfee using her magic wand got the Crow the best there was in the way of Crows food. Juicy worms seemed to be the main part of its food.
This carried on for a week or more when Joanfee told the Crow that on the morning she had to be in Liverpool to chaperone an American Fairy on her first visit to England. The crow was agreeable and the following morning the Crow with Joanfee on its back took off and flew the distance to Liverpool Airport. On landing Joanfee using her magic wand to get more food for the Crow so that it would have enough strength to fly two Fairies back to Fairyland on Dartford Heath.
The Crow decided to have a little sleep while waiting for the Fairies. Joanfee met her American Guest and the pair flew to where the Crow was sleeping. Crows do not like being awakened from a sleep; this Crow was no exception. It cawed and cawed at the two Fairies in the end it refused to fly the two Fairies back to Fairyland.
Joanfee was ever so embarrassed at having the Crow refusing to fly them both to Fairyland out came her magic wand and the Crow turned into a Huge Ugly Toad. Apologising to the American Guest Joanfee tried to use magic to take them both to Fairyland. Try as hard as she could she just could not remember the old Fairy language that one must use for magic to work over long distances.
The American Guest took it all in good part and smiled at the futile attempts of Joanfee to get them back to Fairyland. Looking hard at the ugly toad the American guest turned the Crow back into a Crow. Now unless you want to be an Ugly Toad for the rest of your miserable life she told the Crow you will spread your wings and take us to fairyland. Non-stop do you hear or shall I use my magic wand again. The Crow flapped its wings and asked the two Fairies to climb onto its back. Then a long flight back to fairyland with no other hindrances to slow them down they landed in the clearing on Dartford heath and Joanfee took the American Guest to visit Her Majesty Queen Feeanna Queen of all the Fairies. The Crow now has to find its own food no more juicy worms provided by Joanfee’s magic wand.
