Marriage.

Poetry by Bern.

  • Marriage!

  • I met a beautiful Austrian Girl,
  • In the year of fifty-five.
  • My heart went into a terrific whirl,
  • But at last I was ALIVE.

  • She consented to be my wedded wife,
  • On that lovely September day.
  • It changed my very life,
  • I am most happy to be able to say.
  •
  • We promised at the very start,
  • Not to go to sleep on a stupid row.
  • A kiss a cuddle now that was smart,
  • Our marriage has lasted fine until now.
  •
  • We shared things both good and bad,
  • Life was a struggle to survive.
  • But we were all we had,
  • We are still happy to be alive.
  •
  • Our advice to the young ones,
  • Be true to each other,
  • Shining on you will be many Suns,
  • That will try your love to smother.
  •
  • We are both over eighty years of age,
  • We hold our heads up high.
  • Marriage is no more the rage,
  • For which we both could cry.
