Opened toed sandals
The sharp points of spears ,
A terrified young man
Mind full of fears.
The bitterness of the Suns rays,
Old iron nails hammered in to flesh and wood
A crown of thorns made up for a king
Who’s reign was short and so misunderstood.
That slow lingering death
Although not alone,
A thief at each side
On his high wooden throne.
Those last immortal words
Handed down through all time
We all stand forgiven
Of all of Mans crimes..
Faith it is wanted
And needed right now
For it is Easter
But we all disavow..
For though we are Christians
And to God we all beg..
Oh stuff this religion..
Just buy me an Egg!
The bigger the better
Filled with big bars,
Am a chocolate go getter.
The true spirit of Easter,
(Now don’t get so cross)
Is called Easter Eggs
Covered in chocolate sauce.
What?
There is a line in the movie, Dirty Dancing, "When I'm wrong, I say I'm wrong." That line often comes back to haunt me, as it does in this particular case regarding the comment I posted above. I totally misunderstood the poem. It might be clearer, however, if quotation marks ofset the lines starting at "Oh stuff . . ." and then running on down to the conclusion. It is definitely a change in voice, or else the authorial voice is quoting an overheard comment (at least it appears so in my second, and more humble, reading of the poem). Again, I apologize for my previous, and stupidly incorrect, comment posted last night.

Your lack of respect, however politely expressed, for the Holy Festival of Easter speaks far more of you than of Easter. The failure of some Christians to disavow is no more a disparagement of Easter than a bad poem is a disparagement of the poet's intrinsic worth as a human being.
