Preacher

I stand before the sea of man,

The Word of God held in my hand.

With His Grace I am anointed,

To this position I am appointed.

For I have chosen to answer His call

I stand transparent before one and all.

My life I live beneath a glass.

Some wonder how long I’ll last.

As a man, they see me not.

My life can show no dark blot.

For if I make that one mistake

Countless souls could be at stake.

I must live what I preach.

I must believe what I teach.

I must follow His leadership

And for this task He will equip.

Many see me beyond their touch

When that small word would mean so much-

A word of encouragement for me alone,

To be invited into their homes.

I read and study, I pray and fast

So I can be up to the task.

I bring the word from our good Lord,

His many blessings I do not horde.

I share your joys, your pains and tears-

I’m there for you throughout the years.

But for myself, who stands by me

When there are problems in my family?

Being a preacher is not a chore.

It is an important job that I adore.

Just remember though I am a man.

Please, don’t misunderstand.

I would have it no other way,

Than to stand before you on Sunday.

To share God’s love through spoken voice

And through that Love, we rejoice!

I only ask one thing of you,

If you criticize what I may say or do.

Remember, I am but a humble man

Who willingly agreed to God’s plan.
