Majestically he walks the path
Surveying his sacred domain.
His head held high and proud
Though his eyes reveal great pain.
His forest friends can't understand
Why he takes this walk so slow.
Why sadness shows in eyes of blue
And tears stain a coat of snow.
As the forest path comes to an end
He stands at water's edge.
He hears her laugh from the other side
From behind a green fern hedge.
He knows that she is not alone
For a man's voice with her he does hear.
And the sounds of love from the other shore
Bring out another tear.
He always knew this day would come,
When he would say goodbye.
Just as the others he had loved before,
Each parting made him cry.
Out she steps from behind the bush
Surrounded by love's fresh glow-
The silent tale-tale sign of love
That only a unicorn would know.
And when she comes to water's shore
She looks across the way,
There she sees him standing still
Within a mist of gray.
She sees the sadness in his eyes
For she knows what she has done
And she knows she'll ne'er again see
The gentle face of the pure one.
He dips his head in sad farewell
And tries not to cry.
But as she watches the beautiful beast
A tear slips from her eye.
His noble head is proudly raised,
The sun glints off his silver horn,
He slowly Turns and walks away
-The Goodbye of the Unicorn.
Bravo ma belle.......... such a wonderfully poignant tale, written so well by your ever capable mind to perceive beauty, even in a sadness
