I burned my tongue
on the coffee this morning,
as you lay sleeping.
I burned my tongue
on the way I whispered
"I love you" last night,
on the things left unsaid,
on unconfessed sins,
guilt laden truths, and
on words whispered
in another's ear.
I burned my tongue
on the coffee this morning,
before I found my keys.
I burnt my tongue
I burnt my tongue today....not on coffee or I love you's, but on honesty
and then I had this dying desire to come read this again and sit in the wake of it all :)

Thank you! And I am deeply honored, but this poem truly sucked until I read Ashley poem "Maybe it was the Onions" for the umpteenth time and I understood what I was trying to say. While it wasn't about her, she made me see everything so clearly that I could write this. This one would never have existed without her ;-)

As always, thanks for the push! Otherwise, this would have sat in the notebook for weeks. It sort of reads as a companion piece to Running With Rabbits "Maybe it was the onions..that's it the onions". That wasn't my initial intent, but i read her comment then the poem, and ended up here ;-)
