Sunday Morning

Folder:
Étouffée

Sunday morning,
I pray,
ignorantly,
blissfully;
forgetting more blessings
than she receives,
wasting more than she
eats each day.

I try, yet I cannot believe,
or even perceive as she does,
without choice,
or a voice,
without doubts;
gracing all with her smile,
knowing this life is an illusion
for those with the faith to see.

Forgive my ignorance. Is it

Forgive my ignorance. Is it that you feel her mind is not engaged... that
she accepts what she's told without thought?

Her simplicity and poverty

We are the ones who willingly go through life blind and ignorant of most of the joy, beauty and wonder that surrounds us. Her simplicity and poverty provide her with a clarity and an abundance of faith that those who are worldly and wealthy seemingly cannot see. Our everyday greed, vanity, pride and lust blinds us to most of the beauty, love and honesty in life that her faith allows her to see.

Thought-proving poem!

I love the last two lines! "an illusion for those who care to see". Interesting. This is a poem full of contrasts and opposing ideas. Good one!

Poverty & Faith

Go together like sky and cheese, the fit is never exact, just sustaining because that is the purpose of magic, walking on water can cure any monetary ill, so can feeding the masses with a few fish and a few loaves. Most of life is 50% magic, belief in things not seen or provable, the other half is toil and sweat, shock and pain, a bit of happiness strewn with bliss and satisfaction. 1% is reserved for expressions of inability to comprehend faith and poverty as opposites. - Lady A

My attempt at painting a portrait of those who can constantly hold in one hand what constantly seems to ooze between my fingers. My hands are damp, hers are full. It's not how I hold my hands, but what I hold and how I hold it. I still haven't gotten this one right and have rewritten it so many times, but I think that's a good thing. As long as I'm working to get improve on it;-)
