Look! *Slam Poem-not meant to rhyme*

I tug at your sweater, you’re the woman I adore, maybe this masterpiece will make the refrigerator.
Covered in macaroni, buttons, and string, “LOOK!” I shout as the telephone rings.
It rings and rings, it always rings. And you never look.
“Look!” at this medal dangling from my palm, it reads Most Improved.
Look at it hurry I can’t hold it too long, the copper from the medal so heavy, as heavy as my heart is, but why could that be?
Everyone looked at me the way I always dreamed about before I fell asleep in the cold bed that you never tucked me into.
But none of that mattered because you never looked.
They said Look! At your daughter, front page this time, Homecoming Queen she deserved it you must be so proud.
You said you were but you weren’t there to take my picture.
I had a friend Katie who’s mother took so many pictures of her that her crooked index finger bled but wouldn’t stop even if they went bankrupt buying film to take more pictures because that’s what love is.
And you never took my picture, you never even looked.
Look at this graduation speech is it good enough?
You said you’d read it later but I found it on your desk with the dried ring of a Vodka Tonic.
I looked into the crowd to find the loneliest coldest chair in the room,
I had to squint my eyes to read the twisted piece of masking tape on the chair that read your name.
I couldn’t even look.
Look! I heard them say at the class president with the cigarette between her lips and the water bottle in her right hand that everyone knew wasn’t water. She’s supposed to be an inspiration, someone to look up to.
What is she doing? Anything she can to make you look.
Look at the painful scars on my wrists and my tear stained face, what do I have to do, I’m falling apart, who am I, is this what I have to do for you to look?
I just want you to look. The human neck has four muscles and you can’t even use one of those to look at me. LOOK AT ME DAMMIT.
You never look, you never have looked, and as soon as you do look, I’ll be gone
