My mind is ever racing
a thousand heartaches on a string
just wish I had a moment
to hear their voices ring.
I miss their carefree laughter
and the precious kool-aid smiles;
their whimsical ever afters
and tireless stairstep miles.
The way they find the best of times
in things we've tossed aside;
new life for rags forgotten,
new joys to claim and hide.
Those just-too-perfect sayings
that they magically create,
when nothing else can ease the pain
that life demands by fate.
Oh, I'd gladly trade a day of breath
for just a single glance;
to share a laugh and three foot hugs
and have a second chance.
To dream a little, smile a lot
and make a memory new;
and tell five little tumbly bears
that Daddy, sure loves you!
