Shattered

Flying so high, but you brought us down.

Sleeping so peacefully, but you brought nightmares upon us.

Love so strong, yet so frail and undiscovered.

Life so ancient, yet time recalls its youth.

Where darkness dwells, light protrudes through.

Where our hearts once beat, they were ripped from us.

Blood so red… a death so black.

Salvation so impure, damnation comes easy.

No clear way to make it home.

Hear the dawning of midnight’s terror.

Eating through blood and flesh, flesh and bone.

Trusting easily, but betrayal comes fast.

Never will freedom come upon us.

Shackles and chains tighten their grasp.

Screams of pain and torment escape our lips.

Storms of horrid thunder and booming lightening surround us.

No respite from horrors.

We are lost… we are lost.

Our souls diminished.

Our lives no longer existent.

Breathe deep, harshly gasping.

Broken bones and bloody wounds unhealing.

Too deep for even nature to take play.

Emotions envelope us like a wretched wave,

drowning all of our sanity.

People just don’t understand.

Reality becomes fantasy.

Torn from the safety of ourselves.

There can be no return as beaded drops

of life’s wine slips away.

Away into oblivion.

Heaving and choking with sweat.

When will this life end and another begin?

We wish for solemn peace.

A life of being cared for.

We live on even in death.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This is a poem that I wrote with my friend Teresa while we were at  history assembly. We got bored just sitting and listening, so we decided to write. We think it turned out pretty good.
