Cannon Balls

Cannon Balls

I can see the cannon balls flying through the air

They fly toward me where they land they do not care

Does one have my name etched upon its face?

Will one of them be the one that I will taste?

  • I hear the muskets off in the distance calling my name

If either one should hit me the result will be the same

I hear the bugle sing its deadly tune through the smoke

The sound of men as they gasp last air in their throat

  • I can feel the sting on my chest as heat runs down

Funny I did not hear the deadly instruments’ sound

I lie hear with my life seeping out more and more

I cannot figure out how they can call this a Civil War
