The Absence Of Laughter

The absence of your laughter saddens

the heart that has loved you for years.

Self doubt, frustration, and guilt

rules the smiles that was yours.

You are my hero.

You are my love.

My husband,

please laugh

again.

We

have faced

lifes trials

before, and won.

You are not the cause

of what now lies ahead.

You have the strength within you.

We will find our way together

as we always have faced each challenge.

So many years together to learn!

Have we forgotten the lessons?

Standing firmly united

we must face tomorrow

heads held high and proud.

Our love always,

as before,

the key

now.

Please,

do not

hold yourself

to be the cause

of our weariness.

There is a reason known

by the god that holds our lives.

A lesson waiting to be learned.

Fear not, for he is with us always.

I just wanted you to understand

that the questions of what is now

will tomorrow be unveiled

bringing strength to a love

held dear to each heart.

Please smile my love

for you are

as always

loved.

Author's Notes/Comments:

Eight months of unemployment, no real prospects in sight, has found a way of stealing the laughter from someone I love with all my heart.  This is just to let him know that "Hersh, I love you."

Love can really be a powerful force.
It can be the light in the time of darkness,
the strength in the time of weakness,
the goodness when times are bad.
the courage in the time of fear.

What a sweet tribute to your husband.
He's a lucky guy.

I love the style of the poem too.

Lesa, This is probably one of the best pieces of your heart that I have seen... The structure of the poem is outstanding in it's nonet and reverse nonet form... But the best part as always, is what it say's... I know what it is like to get discouraged, and wonder if the bad times will ever end... You and Hersch are so lucky to have each other!! This poem speaks volumns about love and relationship. I know that you have been going thru some bad times for awhile now... But from what I know of you and Herschel, I would be willing to bet that you will survive, overcome and grow even closer and more in love
(If that is possible) Before it seems that the cloud is lifting from you. Remember... The enemy hates true love and those that have it. He will throw anything and everything at you for as long as the lord lets him... But also remember that the lord won't let him put enough on you to break you! And when the light is shining once again... You will both be so much better for it!

I have never been lucky enough to experience the kind of long term, trusting and loving relationship that you and Hersch have... But I believe what I tell you with all of my heart, and am still praying for both of you in earnest!!! You hang in there Sis'... The greatest reward is still to come!

Peace and love ~~~ Dougie ~~

~LESA~, having read and critiqued on a lot of your work before today, and having just read your latest entries, I must tell you that I am VERY impressed with your work, for it truly comes to this site from your heart. Especially, I like Hershel's comment here on the lack of smiles in your life lately. The plain words from his heart let me know that this lack is a temporary thing, just like your own lack of inspiration (called "writer's block) of late. This dearth will seem laughable in times to come. The old song "Little Things Mean A Lot" comes to mind; viz., the lives inter-relating between a young dog and an older woman. This is friendship beyond the expected. This is truth beyond life's "ordinary". This is the very Music of Life. Thank you for providing your beautiful unanticipated harmonies. And thank you, Hershel, for such a deep and enlightening view into someplace many people would simply ignore, or be afraid to go. Teddy.

"Poe" I'm not, nor "Rich" am I,
but I'll be famous, b'ye and b'ye !

Dear Lesa, I know that I may not be smiling but deep down I still am happy that I have you by my side. I never would have made it this far without you. You are the most loving person I know. If everyone could be like you there would only be love in this world. I know better things are around the corner but we have to live though our trials as they come. Please don't worry that I don't smile much because I smile a lot inside when I see you in the morning, when Kim comes to visit, when I see Kenny, and Amber, and little Jacob. I think this is a great piece and maybe other people will stop and think about some of the things that they can smile about. Love always Hershel
