I sit inside my heart at night,
And wait for you to come.
After all the words ever said,
How can this really be done?
After all the tears of laughter,
The sweet giggles of pain.
How can you honestly tell me,
You won’t love me again?
How can you hear blink,
And push it from your mind?
How can you see rabbits,
And tell yourself you’re fine?
How can you eat hot dogs,
And forget about the cheese?
How can you read Hemingway,
And still find yourself at ease?
How can you do math,
Without the loss of love?
How can you write anything,
Without me to think of?
How can you just sit there,
And simply let me go?
How can you just give up,
On the only love I know?
How can you still hurt me,
And behave completely numb?
When I sit inside my heart at night
And wait for you to come?
