Moonlight glistens
off the sharp blade,
as it plunges into my flesh.
It’s double edge
cuts deep,
leaving a gash,
that even time won’t heal.
I am not surprised,
I knew it was only
a matter of time,
before this deed
would be consummated.
Everything was too good,
Too perfect,
Too beautiful.
Now,
my life’s blood and dreams
ooze freely
from the open wound-
staining the multicolored leaves
At my feet crimson.
But death does not free me-
His dark sinister form
is not awaiting me
in the shadows,
as I’d hoped.
Death is too good for me,
no end to this pain.
I must walk the path a bit longer.
Hoping to finally
find the warm light,
of forever.
