The kettle is heating,
over the hot coals.
Its flame grows hotter
as each day goes by.
The contents thicken
and start to boil,
Sending aromatic steam
up and out of the pot.
The aroma drifts for miles
In all the four directions
Seducing some to feast
and warning others
to not partake.
Will the pot boil over
and put out the fire?
Will the brew stay contained
within the strong cast iron of the pot?
Many cooks have seasoned
and stirred this brew.
So the final flavor will be a surprise.
All we know is that the fire
must keep burning
so the soup will simmer.
not to grow cold this time.
