More Than Stars

I like the way that sounds

The way the ocean pounds

The way that you would say to me

Our love is more than stars could ever be

This is no simple question

I'm not saying you couldn't come up with an answer

I'm just saying let's take our time

There is no way around the stories

No passing through that damned sea

But I believe in the reading

You love I and I love thee

So if the bundle is your dream

I'll reach my arms and hold you both while we sleep

Our child will always be happy

I like the way that sounds

The way his eyes sparkle aloud

The way his voice sings

Our love is more than stars could ever be

So if any strangers visit

Or the people from a hundred years from now

Discover this house on the cliffs

They'll find it written out above the door and in our lovely tree

Our love was more than stars could ever be

One of the finest love poems I have ever read, in almost forty-five years of reading.
