I flung a rope around the entire moon,
and she said, “Let it go, don’t you know or
understand it is for the whole world to enjoy?” So I
changed it into a lucent, brobdignagian diamond,
and she said, “Change it back, now it is always
daytime, don’t you know how many things need
and depend on the night?” So I flew her quickly
to a splendid, hulking castle, but before I could
give her the deed, she said, “Who lives here? These
hardened, stone walls are so cold.” So I hurriedly
took her back to the forest, where she danced
among the flowers, sang to the animals, hugged
a dozen trees, and blew kisses to every ephemeral
butterfly. There I set before her an enormously
large, and incredible banquet, but she never
savored one bite. Instead she wrapped it all up,
and made several trips into town to feed everything
to the homeless, saying, “Don’t you know how
hungry some folks are?” Puzzled now …. the weeks
passed, and I starved all ideas to prove my love
to her. I needed some time to think. So I grabbed
her precious, soft delicate hand, and we strolled
along the nearest beach. She smiled and talked
to the frolicking waves, tossing to the water – every
stranded star fish and sea urchin; then, with her
back against the wind, and face shinning toward
the warm, mellow sun, she turned and said these
words to me, “How did you know the things
that I truly adore and love?”
