My Dove's Departure (for my dear Jill)

Beloved dove, cease thy rise

To the stormy midnight sky

Thy down, caressed by Winter's breath

Shall stay the chance for Mercy's test

Beloved dove, return to me

Loathed by my uncertainty

Brace thyself, for near's the rain

I knew thee well; yet,not thy name

Beloved dove, with iv'ry wings

Which gave the wind a melody

It rippled through my faded mind

Until to thee my soul confined

Beloved dove, capture me

Grace me with thy sanity

Thou hast flown much too high

Straining still, my eyes go blind

Beloved dove, thy light has gone

I've lost to what I've been so drawn

At thy loss, the dark sky weeps

Beloved dove....how I love thee

This poem was inspired in its entirety by a beloved friend, who reminds me of grace-laden dove

I got misty eyed reading your poems. you remind me of W. B. Yeats come to life again. Amazing, a man who can write such verse as this how could any woman leave you winks! I find it terribly hard to believe. Thanks for sharing. I look forward to your future sharing. a sincere fan , Melissa Lundeen.
