one

under the stately oak

a hermit stands, lantern held aloft.

he sees the same tree

but with a stranger's eyes.

tie a knot from willow wythes

walk clockwise with the sunrise

burn poseys or write in ancient dyes

nothing bestows the power

to see through another's eyes.

the maiden swan of mourning

ambles through the garden gate

sadness will not stop

her dancing in the sand.

by oceans, deserts, or languid lakes

in forest fires and earthquakes

whether darkness or dawn breaks

in the places god forsakes

it's her own fate that she makes.

i have seen a tree

with roots in the sand

and roots in the sea.

stranger paths have crossed.

the hermit and the maiden swan

together or alone and gone

battles lost and battles won

it matters not what has been done

if it leads to being one.

Wherever Your Head Was

when you wrote this poem is a place worhy revisiting - marvelous song. I saw Swan Lake and this took me there. Sand dancing is phenomenal poetry. Only an artist who paints in oils can see so much more than mere mortals - enjoyed 4th time.  ~allets ~:D

I'm a very visual person so imagery is easy.  Incorporating the other senses is a challenge

aww thanks!!

i like that verse too.  and the one about the tree.  i really saw that tree.  my writing did not do it justice.  imagine a tree growing on the seashore, surviving salt water shifting sand and bashing waves.  how did it get there?  how did it live that long?  how did it continue to thrive in a place so difficult and dangerous?  i wish everyone could see that tree.  it was astonishing.

I wish you had a photograph

I wish you had a photograph of that tree. Because I'd certainly like to see it.

i went by it pretty fast

in a boat in the ocean.  generally that's a bad place for any electronics.  that may be another painting in the future.
