There are many forms that friendships take,
many ways to show we care,
& countless times we call someone,
so glad they are still there,
& there are ways time changes things,
so many directions we can be led,
but a real friend is always there,
if not in person, in your heart, instead~
~As I'm raising my daughter now,
sweet memories I find
when my Mom was my best friend,
& how it deepened over time,
she knew me better than anyone,
as I know my Hannah now,
she saw the things nobody else saw,
& accepted me anyhow,
she understood the reasons
for the wings I needed to use,
& she listened, when, in confusion,
I needed her guidance, to choose~
~The years have slowly dissapeared,
&, though we've been apart
her love, wisdom, & compassion
have never left my heart,
she still teaches me every day
through all her mothering ways,
she's part of me, & will always be,
in my heart is where she stays~
~Like with my other far-away friends,
I pray the time will come
when we're together face to face...
...I miss my best-friend mom,
I know time changes many things,
yet we're still who we are,
& no matter what tomorrow brings,
her friendship's never far~
