Man vs. Wild

Jack is a man that likes to spend time alone. Some would say that he is an introvert and not really making much of his life. Jack lives at the edges of Boulder, Colorado, right next to beautiful and magnificent mountains. He lives with his dark brown English Labrador, Enzo. Jacks family lives all the way in Chicago. He didn’t really like the city so he escaped to the countryside. Jack worked for Jeep. He was a salesman and was not really that good. He had only sold three cars in the last two months. He felt like he did not fit in that well and that he could possibly lose his job. Jacks escape was the mountains. Once a month he would go camping with the Enzo.  One hot day in the middle of May he decided to go on a long hike and then camp where ever he would find a good place to set up his tent. Jack packed his hiking backpack with snacks, tools, water, his tent, a hatchet and his Swiss army knife. On early Friday morning he put his things in his 2007 Jeep Cherokee. Enzo got in after him and they set off to the mountain. When Jack would go hiking/camping he would call his parents and let them know so they knew when he was coming home and when he was leaving, which part of the mountain he would go just in case of an emergency. Jack and Enzo drove for about half an hour until they reached a park where the mountain began. Jack and Enzo set off the already worn out trail with a lot of energy. After twenty minutes they got to the river and decided to follow the river upstream. After about two hours of hiking up the stream they reached a little lake with a beautiful waterfall about 25 meters tall. He had never heard of this place and was astonished. He had found the perfect place to camp; he wanted to sleep at the top of the waterfall. It took him about 30 minutes to find a way up and when he got there he decided this would be the place he would always come to camp. The flora in this place was incredible. There were berries all over the place; there were beautiful flowers and enormous trees. Jack set up his tent and decided to cook an easy dinner before going to bed. At around 6:30 am and the sun was barely peeking over the mountain when he heard branches rustling around the tent. Enzo immediately started barking. Jack had never seen him like this and assumed it was a small creature. Jack got out to greet a raccoon or a coati, which were common in the area. Little did he know there was a 2 meter tall grizzly. The colossal beast weighing 270kg stood on its hind legs while roaring as if saying you better run. Enzo saw this and bit the grizzly on its leg. The grizzly was infuriated and smacked Enzo on its side. Jack was in shock until the adrenaline kicked in and he grabbed his hatchet and threw it at the grizzly. Jack was amazed that is actually did cut the bear and the bear charged at him. He was hit and he fell 2 meters away. The bear was coming fast until Enzo out of nowhere tackled the bear onto its side. Jack called out to Enzo and Enzo fled the campsite. It was only Jack and the bear. They were about 10 meters away and Jack knew he would make it down the riverside in time.  Jack knew he had to make a jump. Both of them started running at the same time and the bear was catching up to Jack. Jack flung himself over the Cliffside as the bear swiped at his back missing by inches. Those 5 seconds he was airborne seemed like an eternity for Jack. He hit the water with great impact. Jack, dazed out of his mind, got out of the water to see Enzo by the edge of the river. Jack had injured his ankle when making impact with the water. The bear was nowhere in sight. Jack and Enzo limped all the way back to their 2007 Jeep Cherokee and drove down to the hospital.
