Racks and racks full of teaspoons covering a white wall. Spoons over here, spoons over there, you will never stop watching them. It may sound a little strange, but there’s no better decoration than this for her. My aunt’s teaspoon collection, that’s what it is. She has teaspoons from all around the world. A spoon for a place, that’s what she says. Every size, form, material or color you can imagine is in her collection. Wood, silver, gold, glass, porcelain teaspoons, she has them all. Three or four years ago she took the time to order and classify the entire collection. It took her a whole week to organize it. She cleaned spoon by spoon very carefully and then she placed them back in the right rack. Every country has its wrack. For some places she has two or three spoons, for some others she still don’t have, but I am sure that even if she has more than one, they have different stories. She also has a special rack for special teaspoons. Either blessed teaspoons from the Vatican or her grandma’s teaspoons. There is a story for every single one in her collection. Milan, Rome, Paris, London, Amsterdam, you can say you know the city after hearing her story. Details for every moment she spent. Almost every spoon in her collection is from trips she had made. This collection has also grown thanks to her nieces, nephews, sons, brothers and sisters. Everyone that goes somewhere comes back with a teaspoon. There will always be room fore one more spoon. This is the rule, you bring a spoon and you have to tell her your experience in that place, every detail of your trip. It is already a tradition to bring a teaspoon for her as a souvenir. She already knows what her present will be, but she is always excited to have it and even more excited to hear your story. I have helped her collection grow by bringing spoons from the places I’ve gone. The last spoon I gave her was this December. I was excited because she told me it was her first teaspoon from Australia. I think it is really nice to have a collection like my aunt’s. Not only because they bring you great memories from all around the world, but also because, it makes people remember you every time they see that thing.
