I was answering on the Happy New Year 59 comment stream but it got to long, so I switched to prose. The news is all about Michigan, Canada, the airports, and the northeast. the Dakatas are in the path of the vortex, so is most of illinois and Indiana - but I guess they have not sent any spiffy pictures to BBC or ABC. Did you see the Time's Square Snow dude? - Build it and go by cab to the ER with hands frozen up to the shoulder blades, thinking, "That was stupid!" as you lay soaking in a warming bath watching your snow make national and international news. Time to call up "Walking In The Air" again.
I'm an elder, I send the kids out for stuff. We are stocked up all the time, but Michigan is on top of it, the plows and salt trucks keep main roads open. It is the farther out suburban areas that get to break out chains for their tires. haul in firewoood, and wax skis. Anyone who goes out in 30 to 50 below zero will become a snowperson and we will find them in the spring thaw - the angels will be ROTFLTAAO. "You were warned to stay indoors," they will hoot. I worked in three shelters as a volunteer - so there is no reason for homeless people to die horribly - there's food, heat, a bed for everyone. This is no tie to try to beat the odds, unless you know how to build an igloo. (There is more wind outside looking for a place to whirl and whip). Everyone got house shoes for Christmas here. I live in mine, it's that or muckluks - which I also got from Santa.) Dressing in layers is a winter activity like building a snow fort. You can always get warm. My hunter socks have seen the washer frequently this month. Cords are warmer than blue jeans, but I wear 'em both. Hoodies are a staple. Get chilled, take an hour long hot bath with bubbles and forget storms and snow shovels. We have snow removal so when he showed up, we gave him a cigar and a nice red wine for the season's gift. He had on no gloves. How do you shovel snow and plow snow without gloves?

Michiganders know how to stay home (as I write this, I can hear the snow being blown off the roof by high winds). Tomorrow will be a snow day - schools will close. It just makes safety sense, cars are too expensive to bang up on embankments, freeway buttresses, and other cars. Just call us hampsters. We burrow and use vaseline afrer the shower - We've gome green (thermostat pre-set to come on four times a day only), so space heaters keep the chill off - but never overnight, it's a safety hazzard. This is quilt county and if the covers float off the bed, you wake up cold and get it, then drink hot milk or hot chocolate to up the internal generated heat and it's smooth sleepin' after that. I'm usually awake until 3a - 6a, so it's 12:23a now and I'm ready for dinner. Eating late makes me dream vividly, but I never remember the plots. I am seriously eyeing my grandson's sleeping bag.

Going to check out a netflix - spent 12.5 hours listening to oldies - On line, I found Clyde McPhatter, The Skyliners, the Silhouettes, and songs I have not heard in 40 years or more. What happens is memories are jogged that surrounded the music when I was younger. I recalled places and good times (and bad) on this single's voyage. I located Shaft, Hot Buttered Soul, a lot of Leonard Cohen (to be enjoyed later today). For those of you who can walk down to a sandy beach tomorrow, get sand in your shoes for me will ya? I'll be huddled over my Dell, blowing on my fingers to keep them limber. Could someone tell me, when is Spring again?

And to all a good night.

Oh those snowy snowy days and
Oh those snowy snowy days and nights. I remember them well! Hot chocolate, movies, popcorn, and shovelin'. Laugh at the dog rolling in the white stuff up to his ears and the stillness...oh the stillness...yes. I remember it well.
Stay toasty while snowed in and safe while behind the wheel!!

...and he asked her, "do you write poetry? Because I feel as if I am the ink that flows from your quill."
"No", she replied, "but I have experienced it. "

Belatedly, thanks for the read. Jan to October and it is getting ready for snow again time - Like a puppy seeing snow for the first time, you have this big kid inside going awwwwww that's precious - stow the image away as a memory for when you need a pleasant memory. Be well, how's the painting going? - I mess up stick figure - the art police are looking for me. :D - Lady A
