Blades of Grass

Vintage Words

They never found him

he left no note

traceless, not

even a footprint.

They searched the house

walked for hours

in the tall grass. Nothing

was disturbed. One half cup

of tea was found

on the back porch.

They left after a week

unable to detect dew traces

and the great soul cavorting

among countless blades

of green.

Grass of blades

They found him

He left a trail of blood

5 years old

Shivering in

An abandoned house

American dream

Grass of blades

And white picket needles

I just wanted to reverse and play with the title-the rest came to me on the fly.

On The Fly

The body was needle pocked

in spring. When the grass was new

they found her.

Twelve is when females blossom;

a time of learning and seeing

the world and the world's possibilities.

The grass like blades of knives

are tips of kinjals that pierce

her grave surrounded by limp

dandelions and dead daisies.

No one knew her name or place.

Thus, no one came to acknowlege

her going. She has the pauper's

marker, a lot number inside a row

of dirt grown over by weeds

and one struggling  blade of steel

hard grass cutting out the epitaph

for an unmarked grave.
