What to do without memories?

How to keep them fresh

is the reason for photo albums

and letters with stamps.

Ashes come from fire

and sleeping in black satin

may be a comfort when age

becomes the object. The idea

is to continue surviving

as long as Death lets you.

.

To remember any bright time

or face or success may become

less important as years trudge by.

Bringing out the camera

or movie projector becomes

a thing of the expanding past.

.

Scatter them in flower beds,

the ashes of your days. Cultivate

memory blossoms and inhale

them even if their origin is obscured

by time and breathing.
