Talk of Love

Folder:
Vintage Words

.

Popularity is in the mind of men

and women. Boys dream, girls
complain without doing the work.

.

Love as mushy sentiment is

unreality, the drivel that entraps
women and men in deadlock
because talking of actual feelings
for each other and the world
is forbidden.

.

Hearts doing all measures

of impossible pirouettes, traipsing,

and all wise possible raptures
thick as a syrupy liquid to puddle

at the feet of the beloved.

.

Truth, like actual love, roils

across the sky out of reach. It

has become an institution, prelude

to seven years of marriage,
children, lots of romanticized

words, and a bit of pleasure besides.

.

He is responsible, she is dedicated

and unwavering, though unhappy.
Middle aged, his eye more than
roves. She reconsiders options.

The hormones are leaving like
an overlong house guest.

.

The while, real love sits in the corner
armchair sucking on a straw between a
gap-toothed grin.

Courtship rituals can be fun,

Courtship rituals can be fun, and they can be misery as well. If it were all objective plain talk, why would we need poetry?

Continuing through your poems

I am rapidly becoming a fan! I love the tone of the poems I have read, the way the phrases just seem to grow naturally out of each other. Few poets have this effect on me.
