Wrangling back
the emotional horror
that in retrospect
was mere faux pas, I
inhale and let muscles
rest, wishing the return
of limitless energy.
.
Once run, the walk
is exercise else risk ankle
pain, hip screams,
headaches. Once bikes,
marbles, wagons, jumped
rope, pogo sticks--once.
.
No more cocktails, no
wine as avoidance of sugar.
To stretch out on a hammock
or afternoon bed tells time
it matters nothing when awake.
Memories like reflections,
feats met and excelled, high
celebrations, all bows taken
drift in and dominate.
Rest is the neo-nirvana.
