The dead leaves a lessons
for the living that the heart’s
love surrounds us like perfume
rich petals.
Death teaches affection
and foreboding yet interferes
with tender thoughts
of the departed remembered
as beloved.
The past stifles universal tears
to become a healed whole entity.
That said, death has ultimately taught
that the soul’s trappings will never
fill a eulogy or be finalized
by a gravestone.
