The Swallow

The swallow is an illusion of a mirage:
an unrealistic expectation of a perceived perfection.

It’s a vivid tongue;

a cat like creep, coming and going at its please.

It’s a cruel dig at a memory.

I've seen it dye, at least, nine times.

The colours, on its feather are stained

translucent blue, distorted by the glare of the waves.

The swallow is the lucky one, the one in the heating sand.

If I Might - It's Really Really Good

"The swallow is an illusion of a mirage" Since a mirage is an illusion, a misperception, a distortion and such, may I respectfully and humbly suggest "The swallow is an illusion, a mirage" Now they modify each other. The heating sand image is miraculous bye the bye - Lady A

I remember watching a documentary on the Sahara, or the migration of the swallow, or something similar. The idea was that when they fly across the dessert, they get a bit thirsty, and seek out water. They find a lake, but the water is too contaminated to drink. Luckily the lake is swarming with flies, and the swallows, by eating the flies, can get enough water to finish the journey. So what they found wasn’t what they were looking for, it was disguised as something else.

If that makes sense…

but I think you’re right, I’m starting to notice these little things now
