The owl and the cardinal

A very long time ago there was a wonderful place where the golden sun was always shining and where there was no darkness at all. The blue birds were singing, the grass was green and peace can be felt at every corner. Evil didn’t exist, the animals lived happily and in company of each other. There were two good friends, a big brown, hairy owl and a little red feathered bird. The little bird was still very young, he tried to be just as good as his good wise friend, always listening to his advice and nice words. The owl, on the contrary felt like the little bird needed to be more mature and not so rebellious. One day, in a very cold morning, a big flock of pelicans came all scared and flustered yelling around. “Here it comes! The end is near, everyone! Be safe!” Just as every morning, the cardinal and the owl were having a delicious breakfast together. The owl was trying to convince the cardinal to read more instead of flying around all the time. “You need to enjoy a good book all by yourself, the owl said. Try to study at least every afternoon about anything you are interested like history, geography, or even about natural disasters.”  The cardinal started laughing and replied, but I do study every day! Whenever I’m flying I look up to the sky, I see the clouds and the river and I love to discover new things. That should definitely be considered as studying, don’t you think so? The owl didn’t agree, but he decided to keep quiet. After a while, they started listening to the animals screaming and they flied as fast as they could to see what was happening. A big grizzly bear was looking desperate for food, hiding everything he found. The bird curious as always asked him “What are you doing? Why is everyone so scared?” The beard said, “Please come with me now, there is not enough time, the pelicans came and they warned us about a gigantic wave from the ocean that can be dangerous. Come to my cave, the whole town will refuge there” The owl couldn’t believe it, he just didn’t trust him and he knew that was impossible. He believed he was smart enough to know that a wave couldn't hit their town because it was too far away. The little bird tried to make the owl think a bit but he was too proud of himself and didn't want to listen to the pelicans and the bear warnings. Some time passed and the whole town was safe at the bear’s cave on top of a high mountain. After a few moment the unexpected happened, a huge wave almost the size of the mountain hit the village and some nearby towns. The owl was not able to react on time to the gigantic wave, so he got swallowed up by the water. Meanwhile the town enjoyed some good meals at the bear’s home at the mountaintop cave while playing. The moral of the fable is to listen to different opinions, be humble and accept that you can be wrong even when you are totally sure of something.
