My Grandmother Showcase
My grandmothers big beautiful wood showcase is something I will always remember is where she keeps her great possessions or memories, she keeps there too her collection of souvenirs, which means where she keeps all the special things that have a great meaning for her. She has some memories or possessions of her grandsons, for example she has a very small doll I loved when I was little, or the socks of my sister when she was a little baby, some stuff of her sons and daughters and her loves ones. I remembered I once saw an old picture in a frame like the 40’s it is a picture she has with her parents, she has too a small turntable that sometimes she takes out in order to play some music, she keeps it because my grandfather loves it. She keeps there too the first present my mother every give to her, which that was a very small purse that she bought for her in a marketplace when she was 6. She also has all the souvenirs when we my family took her and my grandfather to visit Europe. For example she keeps a fake diamond souvenir from a place she visited In Paris, an old fan from Rome, masks from Venice and souvenirs from the “Phantom of the Opera Musical” in London. She keeps her mother fancy gloves and lovely picture of her and my grandfather marriage. She has a box of with all the important letters they had ever given to her. She keeps a lot of old possessions like old keys, old platters and old private souvenir when she was little, is curious I had never ask her about a lot of old souvenirs that she has there but I am almost sure many of those special possessions she has there have a long and maybe sad history because sometimes she doesn’t want to talk about them or when she tells us about her possessions she really tries to skip the story of those, but as some of us had notice that, we don’t ask her about it. And I kind of understand her because I am a keeper meaning I keep and store every single special memory they give to me for example all the cards from my birthday all those little cards that come with the present with the names written, I also keep all those of special letters from the loved ones and many more stuff. So I think I can feel connected or related to my grandmothers’ showcase because I have always dreamed to have one just like that one and keep my special memories. And I wander what secret possessions and what more special memories I will keep there when I am her age, already lived a life of adventures and memories.
