The Psychologist
Martha is nineteen years old; she lives in a small place where everyone knows each other. She was an ordinary girl in an ordinary school. Martha has a big family, two brothers and three sisters.
One day when Martha enters her house she feels something strange, but when minutes passed everything was just like other days…. Until, after dinner, her parents order her to go to their room.
When her parents start explaining her that she was going to study abroad, Martha’s reaction was not the one her parents expected. So her father felt the need to state
“You are going and there’re no excuses,” her father demands
It was January 20, her leaving date. They drove to the airport but Martha was still confused about the present situation.
When she gets to her new campus she starts feeling really nervous and confused so she went straight to her bedroom.
“Thank God” She said
While she only sees one bed
“No roommates”
Months passed and Martha still hasn’t catch up to her new lifestyle. But she refuses to tell her parents. Martha’s feeling insecure, nervous but mostly sad.
“I don’t even recognize myself” she thought
She made an appointment with a psychologist, Dr. Robert.
Dr. Robert starts explaining her everything she’s feeling is very normal.
“A dramatic change forced by parents is difficult to handle” He said
“But you have nothing to worry about” He confirmed
Martha was pleased to hear Dr. Robert words.
Days had passed from her visit to Dr. Robert but it was something about it that she couldn’t keep her mind of it. She was feeling something, a happy feeling; it was the first time Martha felt something like that.
Martha for no reason calls the office of Dr. Robert and made an appointment.
It was Monday; Martha was ready for her second appointment, even if she didn’t have any reason to go.
She entered the room... Her palms were sweaty, her heart pulsing really fast. So she decided to hurry down the couch and sit down.
Dr. Robert stated he was surprised to see her due to the last visit; he stated her emotions were completely normal.
Martha was acting like no day else, while she started explaining why she was there, not even she could explain.
“Do I like Dr. Robert?” she thought
“Why does it feel so right being with him?” she questions herself
She stayed quiet while the doctor started asking some questions.
But Martha didn’t answer.
Dr. Robert was waiting for her answers.
Minutes had passed but nobody was talking.
Martha suddenly feels an impulse and sat next to the doctor. The space between them was becoming smaller and smaller every second, after time passed with their faces very close together.
Dr. Robert suddenly stands up refusing to kiss Martha.
Dr. Robert explained to Martha that having feelings for your psychologist in this type of situations were really common. Martha doesn’t recognize herself but the psychologist does, making her go directly into growing confused feeling for him, because of her loneliness. Meaning her feelings where not true of love, but of loneliness.
Martha felt so ashamed, but at the time she felt relieved because she finally understood the strange emotions she felt since the first appointment. So she walked out of the office.
“What a situation” she thought
But just when Martha closed the door…
“I want to be with her, I really wanted her” he stated
“But not like this”
