Eastward From Eden

Giving way to your new, naked ambition,

without regard for context or condition,

you sought to grasp beyond your present reach,

then; and too soon before Love's plan to teach.

Too much given to brash imagination,

despite the warning and the trepidation

it should have caused, you set aside plain sense,

and, unprepared, seized the experience.

Future, thrust into present, tossed to past

is really not the way to give the last

privilege above the first by mere dictation.

You must move through life, now, by small accretion

not full possession.  Yes, a poverty

of sorts---to bring you forward spiritually---

from which you must not turn away, nor fear it

becoming blest becoming poor in spirit.
