A dragging of the feet, an inaudible muttering is all that is heard

Intently staring at the floor

As if each hallway tile's cracks and crevices held the answers to this unending loneliness

Hoping one day it would all become clear the secret to fitting in

But until that day nothing but the slow and lonely walks in those unending hallways

A furtive glance up occasionally if the boy is feeling extra brave

Never making eye contact or exchanging greetings

To others he appears oblivious to his surroundings

Picked on for being a loner and an outcast

But in his mind there is but one thing,

The simple desire to fit in and be like everyone else

Then one day the unthinkable happens

A glance up in the hallway reveals something other than the usual blankness of others' expressions

Instead of the complete ignorance of his being his glance is met with a warm smile and a hello

This simple word will change so much

This one word symbolizes much, showing that someone does care

He will be forvever warmed by that friendly smile

He will remember the kindness shown and be forever grateful

All of a sudden one event changes a mindset

The once timid outcast now bravely greets others and begins to show his true colors

Sure, it isn't easy at first but now he has the confidence to succeed

One boy ranformed by one single event

A whole new world is opened up to him because of one person's kind heart

So remember each action has consequences, whether positive or negative

And even the smallest things can have the greatest impact
