And only then ...

The beasts of nature's world do crawl,
Or swim o'er land and sea,
yet no other creature great or small,
Can sing life's song like me,
A song that helps us rise to fall,
My own sweet melody,

A test some say, though they'd be wrong,
A journey none the less,
Still many feel they don't belong,
Myself I must confess,
If any were to stop my song,
You'd learn of my distress,

To look back is to curse all men,
To wonder what could be,
I'll stop to rest and think of them,
When light I cannot see,
But only then, and only when,
My soul is finally free.
