Falsetto

I occupied a higher space

Beyond mode or reason.

Like humanity was given a certain plane

That I exceeded by miles.

William Vennard spoke to me;

His ligaments folded and pushed.

He told me that we all have range

If we so desire.

I felt my lungs expand

And exert something more:

Like a power that had never existed

In any woman ever before.

Author's Notes/Comments:

This poem was written from an exercise I was given in my creative writing class: write a poem based on a word without using the word or words related to it.
