My silence

Protection from the world

The world so empty and so cold

Protection from the pain inside

From all the things I hide

Protection from reality

And my own insanity

Protection from my fears

And my many lost tears

Protection from everyone

All the people who have gone

And the ones who don’t trust me

The ones who can’t see

Who I am,

Where I’ve been

And what I’ve done.

As my silence keeps them in the dark.

It protects me from the truth

From the future, from the past

From the things that have happened

And from the pain that lasts.

With my mouth sealed shut,

No one knows,

Anything about me

Or who I may be.

That’s the best way

As then you can’t be betrayed

Can’t be disappointed

And your weaknesses can’t be exploited.

You’ll live in peace

And live in happiness

Alone in your head

But without broken trust.

My protection,

My shield, my mask,

That is my silence,

And forever it will last.
