Joy

Night's mist kissing the treetops goodbye

As first beams of the morning smile

The caw of a crow and the blare of a jay

This new days symphony styled

Songbirds joining in like soft little kisses

Their melodies cascade in my mind

The stretching of petals as flowers awaken

Sweetening this new piece of time

Sunrise searching for the forest floor

Being led astray by the leaves

A dappled painting of light and shadow

Giving darkness her one last reprieve

The world is reborn and I witness its birth

Scenes etched in my soul for all time

I give thanks and revel in my greatest gift

The simple joy of being alive.
