Pillars

Sheered like a sheep
Spun just like the wool that fell off on to the dusty ground
Just like Samson himself
Chained and deceived by beauty
Pulling at the pillars
As the locks loosen and the temple tumbles down

Oh, bury us now
Oh, deliver us from the yokes
Of such evil desires and snares

Honeybees in hand
Striking these lions down with the teeth of the dead
As the days that have all but passed
Come drifting back out
Like ghosts and masks
Egging fear to tear the pillars down on the sheep for once and for last

Oh, bury us now
Oh, deliver us from these yokes
Teach us better love
Show us we're not lost
By seeking us out
Like a lamb from the fold
And, cover us in pure, bleached wool
Beneath a temple that needs not pillars
Or, entrance fee to behold
