Common Credence

I drew a line between my heart and my head
Soul, secure me to which I shall stand
And, love, let me fall where I should land

I ran so hard, my breath was so loud
Pushed harder, yet still I never found
What I was searching for, and now

I see the dark not for how it shrouds
But, for the truths it tries to drown out
Like hope and forgiveness
The Known and the endless reach
Of love as simple as a heart intrigued
By a head that can no longer comprehend
How everything can still exist
Outside the bounds of sight and reason
If the will to believe persists
Beyond common credence

I fell like a brick into the water
Sunk down deep to sink even farther
Into the strength and darkness of the squaller

I drew in breath and then released
The last ounce of strength inside of me
And, fell hard on my virgin knees

And, said…

Show me the dark not for what it shrouds
But, for the truths it attempts to drown out
Like hope and forgiveness
The Known and the endless reach
Of love as simple as a heart conceived
Out of the need of a head that cannot comprehend
How everything can still exist
Outside the bounds of sight and reason
If the will be believe persists
Beyond common credence
