Second Chance

I've been carrying this heavy load

This anthill and mountain both seem so similiar now

And, I know the past will amount to love when I forget

The girl I fell in love with so many years ago

There's a hurt that can heal

A depth that can steal the fear of the unknown

Cause, when you sink so low

You're bound to eventually float back to the top of the barrell

And, with an ounce of luck, know that

Hope cannot be drowned

And, that when hope abounds

Hope shows you how to love again

I've been tallying these ticks of my watch

A bold reminder of how time doesn't stop

And, just how short life is

If you forget to grab it and taste it and touch it and live it

I've grown for years within the flesh of my wounds

Suckled and fed as if nutured within a womb

Meant to consume rather than produce a new, innocent, infant life to begin

But, it's time to begin

Life, if you'll have me back

I'd like to cash my second chance in

And, grab you

And, taste you

And, touch you

And, live
