The Purpose and Plight

Sometimes we bite off more than our mouths can chew

And, bark off orders onto those who

Have acknowledged our self-fulfilling prophecies and masquerades

But, listen here babe

It ain't ever been about what you said

And may I, to that, add

It'll only ever be, as it's always ever been, about what you truly mean

Cause, there will always be pain and joy

No matter how well we try to toy with the words

So, may we, just maybe enjoy the way we

Seem to express them… so very well

And, sometimes you've just got to let it be

Unshackle yourself and tackle the air with open lungs and breathe

And, just listen to the healing way

Silence often speaks

With perfect enunciation

Of both the purpose and plight

Of seduction and melody

Cause, there will always be figment and foundation

No matter what provisions pervade through our very words

So, may we, just maybe enjoy the way we

Seem to illuminate them… so very well

So, strike the flint to steel

And, feel the warmth as the filament fills with light

And, lift, with purpose, your arms toward the sky

And, lay down your plight in the very dirt from which it sprang
