Open Hand

 

 

The roads we wandered down

Were so hard to endeavor

Sometimes I wonder how we ever

Found each other

Amidst a world so shattered

 

Therefore, it is with heartfelt thanksgiving

The light you ignited, defeated

My grieving and provided me needed

Solace, and impeded

The ache my heart was feeling

 

And, I want you to know, I felt it so clearly

The struggle you kept

Protecting so dearly your innocence

Knowing love would profess

Itself fulfilled in the name of its own debt

 

Cause, when I was just a little kid

My mother told me love was more than

Words falling from lips, and that

If I simply asked

It'd be found in a stranger's open hand

 

So, when my strength was failing me

Your heart reached out

And, gave me words you spoke aloud

With boldness, as to how

To notice love amidst a world of doubt

 

And, it's taken years to fully understand

How the wisdom held within

A pure girl's hand, can somehow bend

A young man's thoughts toward when

He is hers and she is his
