Willow Bark

Here I am now

Here I stand to say

I'm headed south

I wish I could stay

And, kiss your mouth

The same way

We used to kiss

In a mixture of both lust and love

As we pretended in the latter more with each passing day

What I've got

What I had

It's worth a shot

Getting back

A life before you

A time when I prayed

To shake loose

The longing that paved

The paths of my shoes

And, engraved

Hope deep into my soul

That someday you'd come and not let go

But, we both now know just how quickly things can remain

What I've learned

What I lost

Is now first

And, foremost not

Cause, I still hold your memory

With and without certain caveats

Cause, the goodness remains indelibly

Carved deep as if in willow bark

And, the hurt that you caused me

Is somehow lost in what was carved
