I get so caught up in myself
In love with the suffering a memory can bring
A moment I lived through
So I could know what a broken heart means
And, I’ve learned that what it really means
Is simply learning to love yourself
Once you’ve lost something
In a valley of my life, I learned what depression means
I learned that sometimes the sun doesn’t find a high enough peak
To peek its rays above the lowly mountain peaks
And, in that same valley, I learned that sometimes knees must bleed
If you’re going to outrun the shadow's dark scene
To be seen again by the light’s beautiful, healing sheen
I found a hand to grasp
In the minute my downturned eyes began to see
The moment gravity released
The rhythm of my heart back to a normal beat
And, I learned that love will always defeat
That which does not meet a certain standard
That love requires all to be
In a valley of my life, I learned what depression means
I learned that sometimes the sun doesn’t find a high enough peak
To peek its rays above the lowly mountain peaks
And, in that same valley, I learned that sometimes knees must bleed
If you’re going to outrun the shadow's dark scene
To be seen again by the light’s beautiful, healing sheen
