I’ve got a gray sky above me
Floating low and so slowly
Spitting specks of snow, dusting the earth below
And, covering everything I once knew
And, touching everything I once trusted
So, now I know
That just as everything becomes comfortable
Pins and needles prick holes in the balloons ascending above us
And, down comes the rain in the summer
And, in the winter down comes the snow
But, in any weather, whether or not you securely tether yourself to the ones you love
It always seems there’s never a string to grab to pull them back
So close, has always been too far away
Up evaporates the ocean, down falls the rain
Both so familiar, yet so foreign to each other
Salty and pure
As each begin to explore
The taste of the other
It’s a strange sensation swimming in a sea
Where you can touch the floor with your toes in a drought
And, drown without warning when the sky decides to split open
And, when the only time you’re safe
Doesn’t last long enough for you to appreciate the building clouds
Or the dwindling depth between you and the shipwrecks on the ocean floor
I’ve got a gray sky above me
With the weight of the ocean hanging in the sky so heavy
With the tips of my toes touching the sandbars below me
