Turmoil rings though the streets
As someone down the road is losing their life
Screaming blue and white, red wet on the concrete
Involuntary grasps inhaled amplifies the immense pain
And just like that it too slips away
I hear someone say it’s too late
Time of death and D.O.A.
Inside the world is unaffected
Learned to paint it calm so you don’t turn numb
But the doorbell rings
The dishes fall in the sink
Your hands can no longer feel
Your mind can no longer think
Is this really happening to me
Dressed in hesitance
He musters up sympathy
And you fall to your knees
To cry like a child who lost innocence
It’s the kind of pain so immense it fatigues
Standing alone at the coffin
You remember the life he offered you
The late nights waiting up till his shifts were through
Knowing that your one less hour with him might have saved someone
But you also know now that no one’s here to save you
As a hand falls upon your shoulder
Dressed in hesitance
He musters up sympathy
And you fall to your knees
To cry like a child who lost innocence
It’s the kind of pain so immense it fatigues
Pressed with resistance
You tried to hold him from the door
Cause you knew he wasn’t coming back
