I cannot believe at how simple it was to feed continuously for an entire week and no one notice a change in the population. I cannot believe I had forgotten such a Melarvious little detail of this day in time. Death was death and no one questioned it or the strange disappearances. It was quite enjoyable not to have everyone else around, but I was beginning to miss the presence of Melarvious and-
“Ducky!”
I look up to see an overvescent fiery redhead walk towards me.
“There ye are! I have been looking all over fer ye fer the past week!” She stands in front of me and places her fist on her hips. “Where have ye been?!”
“I had to feed for a week. Without it, this fun time everyone is having would have ended by today.”
She stares at me in disbelief. “I though ye didnae need to do that anymore. Not since-”
“There ye two lovebirds are!” Perky stomps over towards us. “Have ye forgotten tis be meh and Shamus’s birthday? The festivities is about te begin and ye two promised ye’d be there.” Perky turns to walk away, then looks behind to see of we are following. “Come on. Ye two can have yer alone time later, but fer right now we are celebratin’ my and Shamus’s coming of four hundred and forty-three years of livin’.”
Melarvious and I look at one another and follow Perky to a nice sized little clearing, the only light coming from the glow of the pit in the middle of it all. I look to all that are there and laugh to myself as I see some of the wiccans that admitted to having a fondness for my son. He was quite the ladies man.
“Ey! Is Shamus arrived yet?” They all shake their heads as Perky grins, “Very well then.” He looks over towards the wiccans. “Ladies, are ye ready to finally turns meh scrawny other half into man?”
They only grin and giggle.
“Perky!” Melarvious gawks. “Is that the whole reason ye’ve thrown this little get together? So ye can turn yer twin brother into yer version of a man?
Perky grins. “Aye.”
“Perky Sham, ye are nuttin’ but a pin swindler, panhandler, vagabond, layabout, parasite of a sorry excuse of a good fer nothin’ drunkard vampire and ye should be ashamed fer tryin’ to turn yer shy sweet brother into the same!” All the while as Melarvious spoke, her hair turned into actual fire and swirled all around her. “Ye shouldn’t be doin’ this to hem! Hes a innocent boy that deserves better than what ye’ve been givin’ hem and ye know it’s true! Just because ye ‘r a good fer nuttin’ bum doesnae mean he should beh!”
Perky’s grin only gets wider. “Melarvy, am I detectin’ a bit of jealousy surroundin’ yer voice?”
Melarvious’s hair metamorphoses back into actual hair and looks behind her. She looks back and Perky and growls, “Ye best be thankful that yer bums ye call friends are guidin’ ye brother down the hill right now or else ye would beh nuttin’ butt a shriveled up prune when I got done with ye.” She turns and walks to the other side of the pit before she turns back around and snarls, “Beh thankful yer brother loves ye ’cause if he didnae, ye’d beh in an eternity’s werth of pain.” As the three near, Melarvious smiles and is the one to remove the blindfold from Shamus’s eyes and kiss his forehead before stepping off to the side so that he may see everyone else. “Happy four hundred and forty-third birthday Shamus. I pray ye an ye alone have many more.” She glares at the three bums, smiles at Shamus once more, then walks away to the far side of the clearing and as far from the circle of light created by the pit.
Everyone pretends not to notice the anger radiating Melarvious letting the music, dancing, chanting, shouting, drunken singing, kissing, and man becoming begin.
I sneer at them all and walk over towards Melarvious and sit down next to her on the chunk of wood that is being used as a seat. “I apologize for Perky’s behavior. He has really never been the person to be a fine youngman, or even good role model for Shamus.”
She look at me with eyes filled with disappointment towards the bums. “Tis not yer fault Ducky. Tis never yer fault in these types of situations er any. Yer a gewd creature, regardless of what ye er any other believes.”
I smile. “You were always so wise and unchild-like during this century Melvie. I could even remember growing quite a fondness for you myself during this time.”
She smiles. “Well thank the witches of this day and age. When they supplied meh with ma new look, they also supplied meh with a bit of a different personality. I know that this personality may have been hidden somewhere within meh, but it never would’ve been found if it were not fer them.”
I laugh and spot a lump of cloth on the ground pick it up and place it on the place on my arm where my shoulder and arm connect. “Come. Lay and lay your head on my shoulder. You need to smile more and relax. I am beginning to fear that I am losing my old friend.”
She grins laying her head on my shoulder, “Aye, ye nae be worried about that Sucky-Ducky. I will always be yer close old friend.”
“I pray so Melarvious. I pray so.”
The rest of the night Melarvious and I sat and talked of times and even got up and joined in on some of the less vulgar and explicit of the festivities. I even noticed Annoyance and Boy there but saw Miss Remembrance no where in sight.
