Ops Managers Lament
I am watching the dawn grow stronger as the rotors start to turn,
the boys are heading out, there’s some avgas needs to burn.
Before the whine of starters broke the morning’s peace and quiet
The scene was quite surreal, the Kookaburras greet the light.
The mist is slowly fading from a low cover on the ground
With quiet voices working out a plan, pilots standing round
And then the engines growling with the blades all beating down
The rising dust is everywhere, its swirling all around
The choppers are ascending through the rays of morning light
They’re off to find the cattle for the time to muster’s right
.The prices are right up there and the seasons not been light.
The bullocks that are coming in will give the scales a fright
Well they found old Red the piker and the owner gave a laugh
He said if you can yard him boys we’ll kill the fatted calf
Well Old Red tried everything, his entire repertoire
But those clever pilots were too good for him by far
And then the day was over and they made it to the yard
Our pilots are back alright, despite the flying hard
And so to the office i retreat, the boys are tying down
Another muster is complete, let’s shout the boys a round.
