From Storm to Sunrise

The raging storm has at last found me.
Its moist spray wafted through the blinds.
I shivered as the chill embraced me,
As I absently dried my wet eyes.

Teary heavens lashed out on gray skies,
The earth was bathed in cold mercury.
Were there no any other colors,
To break the cold pigments of the day?

Angry waves lashed at the calmer shores.
Hermit crabs scurried back to their holes.
Turbulent winds tore leaves from branches.
The world was somber, dark, and furious.

I tried hard to catch heat and keep warm,
Bargained with God to heal my spirit,
Pleaded with heavens to stop the storm,
Pleaded with myself to stop feeling.

I dared the elements to drown me,

I dared the pain to simply numb me,
I dared fate to shake me till I bled,
I dared the rushing  waves to claim me.

The shining sun has at last found me.
It sifts through the blinds warming me.
I savor the warmth after the chill.
I wipe slumber from my resigned eyes.

Warm sun kisses the heavens and blue skies.
Earth sits resplendent under gold lights.
Everything is painted in fresh hues.
Isn't this a lovely place to live?

Serene waves roll to golden shores.

Hermit crabs bask under the warm sun.
A faint wind propels the leaves to dance.
The world is peaceful, bright, and happy.

I learned that I'm not immune to pain.
I thank God for the sunshine within.
Blew thankful kisses to the heavens,
Pleaded with myself to feel again.

I now dare to breeze through life's trials.
I dare to absorb the pain inside.
I dare fate's jokes to shake me senseless.
I dare your flaming love to burn me.
